Newcastle Town chairman Paul Ratcliffe has stepped down with immediate effect due to personal reasons.

Ratcliffe, 69, who has been at the helm of the local non-league side since taking over back in October 2008, will take up the role of commercial director for the coming season.

Replacing him will be a joint effort between Castle’s Youth Team coordinator Alistair Miller and General Manager Geoff Ecclestone.

Ratcliffe said: “First of all I would like to let everyone know that due to personal business commitments I am standing down as chairman. I will continue at the club in the important role of commercial director.

“I am sure we are in good hands and there are many changes already in place to enhance our club.

“Finally I hope you will offer any support you can to our new chairman and look forward to seeing you at next season’s matches.”

Since his arrival, Town have developed their youth system which has seen four members of the youth team break into the first team as well as plenty of success on the field, including winning the Staffs County Challenge Youth Cup this season.
